OUT call it Scandinavia’s coolest neighborhood and we couldn’t agree more. “Once a blue-collar neighborhood, now a center for clothing boutiques, design stores, and cafes, SoFo is where the pretty people hang (and where Alexander Skarsgård grew up).” The neighborhood we’re talking about is SoFo in Stockholm.

SoFo – the area south of Folkungagatan – has become a diverse scene for the new and unexpected, as well as top-class vintage merchandise. This is a place for fashion and design mavens to find things that have been much written about as well as unique items.

OUT took an afternoon to explore what the area has to offer. Check out their favorite discoveries here>>

What’s the best thing to do when winter starts setting in in November? Go to the movies!

This year’s festival will be the 22nd in line. Every year hundreds of films are shown in cinemas all over Stockholm and the festival is attended by known faces from the film industry as well as rookies.

9 – 20 November

This summer 15 persons of the OUT editorial staff went to Sweden to celebrate Midsummer’s Eve and to explore why our country of less than 10 million people is so culturally relevant right now. From Robyn and the Knife to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The new issue of OUT lists 82 reasons to love Sweden, starting with an interview with Alexander Skarsgård, best for his role in HBO’s lusty drama True Blood. In the interview Alexander Skarsgård talks with the Swedish filmmaker, Jonas Åkerlund about the Swedish conquest of Hollywood, national differences in etiquette, and why Swedes get so much sex. Read the interview>>

“I’ve got a little issue. It seems that I have contracted a fashionable new strain of Stockholm Syndrome. I use the term ‘fashionable’ to describe my particular version of the psychological affliction, because rather than a group of sympathetic bank robbers, I am instead being held captive by the style of Stockholm. I fully admit that I not only identify with my chic captor but I fully bow down to it and embrace it. If loving the style of Stockholm is wrong, then sign me up for a bad romance.”

Swedish fashion and design is much more than skinny jeans and strangely named bookshelves from IKEA. Some say that the success is due to the focus on clean, cool, elaborated and innovative forms that appeal to people all over the world.

One of Sweden’s strongest brand names in jewelry is not only represented in the Meatpacking District in New York; most recently designer Efva Attling opened a new flagship jewelry store at fashionable Biblioteksgatan in Stockholm. Efva’s specialty is playing around with words and expressions. She calls her design Beauty with a Thought.
